Question: The venue I chose has a coordinator included in their package, so do I really need a wedding planner too?

Response #1 (from a coordinator):  "Most venues have their own event/wedding coordinator, who by the way work for the venue and not for the bride!!  A wedding coordinator from a venue is generally one whose duties are for the day of the wedding, a wedding planner means that this professional has planned the wedding from start to finish and works only for the bride/bridal couple."

Response #2 (from a wedding blogger): "The venue's wedding coordinator makes sure things run smoothly for the VENUE not you (sometimes these are totally different things). If a bride can afford it I highly recommend at least getting a day of coordinator, it will lower the insanity level considerably."

Response #4 (from a wedding photographer): "The venue coordinater has no stress.  A wedding coordinator guides them and makes them relaxed as all is sorted.  I have been at weddings where the Bride is so stressed out it is not even worth taking photos of her."

Response #5 (from an actual bride): "As a bride my venue co-ordinator didn't even work on Saturdays so had someone I'd never met before on the wedding day - and didn't see them that much either."

Bridal Shower Towel Cake

Wedding cakes can be a great way to continue the theme or decor of your wedding while giving your guests a tasty treat, and creating beautiful photo opportunities.  Here are a few tips for personalizing your wedding cake and cut the cost of it at the same time.

1)  Serve a cupcake tower instead of an actual wedding cake.  You can choose to have the top tier as a small cake for the cake-cutting ceremony, and to personalize with a cake topper if you so choose.  Not only will this alternative probably cost less, it will also save you from cake-cutting fees.

2) Order a small wedding cake for display, and an undecorated sheet cake in your preferred flavor to provide cake for everyone.  The sheet cake can be cut in the kitchen, and guests will never know their slice may not be from the actual wedding cake.

3) Have your wedding cake decorated with fresh flowers, rather than flowers made of sugar.  The cost of sugar flowers can be very costly.  Also, your wedding cake can be very simple, since fresh flowers are so vibrant and beautiful.  A simply decorated cake is always less expensive.

4) Ask to have a foam cake decorated to look like a real wedding cake, but serve guest from a sheet cake that will be cut in the back so they never know the difference.  Bakeries use this trick for trade shows, and it can be used to save you money for your wedding too!

Brides & Bridesmaids Extravaganza

Several bridal shows are available to help brides plan their weddings, but none are dedicated to making bridesmaids feeling involved.

Power Wedding Planning is presenting “Brides and Bridesmaids Extravaganza” at the Bemis Center of St. Norbert College in De Pere at 6:30pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.  The event is focused on providing ideas and services for everything a bride and her bridesmaids need to plan the perfect bachelorette party and bridal shower, as well as the latest bridesmaid fashions.

Power Wedding Planning will be providing brides and bridesmaids the chance to visit with vendors from various categories.  Guests will receive complimentary signature cocktails, created by the catering staff at St. Norbert.  A fashion show will be presented featuring the latest in bridesmaids attire, hair, and makeup.  After the fashion show, a raffle will be held for prizes, including a $30 Visa Gift Card.
